Fractional CFO & Financial Systems

Contract-to-report integrity for growing SaaS companies.

Luminality pairs hands-on fractional CFO leadership with controlled, standards-based reporting systems — so every metric your board and investors see traces back to a signed contract and your books, not a spreadsheet full of assumptions.

About Luminality

Finance leadership built on a career of getting the numbers right.

I’m Brent Hucks, a CPA and fractional CFO who works as an outsourced finance partner for SaaS and technology companies. Before founding Luminality, I served as VP of Finance at Newport Hill Capital and started my career at KPMG — experience that shaped a straightforward view of financial reporting: it should be accurate, traceable, and something a founder can defend in front of a board or an investor without hedging.

I’ve also run my own business, which means I don’t advise from a purely theoretical seat. I know what it’s like to need clean numbers on a tight timeline, and I build systems and teams around that reality rather than around textbook process for its own sake.

Today I split my time between acting as a fractional CFO for individual companies and building Luminality, a controlled reporting system that turns executed contracts and accounting-system data into trustworthy SaaS metrics.

What I do

Three ways I help finance teams run better.

01

Fractional CFO Leadership

Outsourced CFO support for SaaS and technology companies — forecasting and budgeting, cash management, board and investor reporting, and hands-on guidance through fundraising, technical accounting questions, and day-to-day financial decisions.

02

Custom Financial Systems & Reporting

Purpose-built reporting systems — like Luminality’s own contract-to-report engine below — that connect your contracts and accounting system to a single, documented set of metric definitions, so your Google Sheet, dashboard, and client portal always agree with each other.

03

Accounting Team Optimization

Hands-on work with in-house accounting departments to tighten the monthly close, clarify ownership, and put real controls in place — so the team is more focused, more efficient, and driven by a repeatable process instead of quarter-end scrambles.

Luminality software

Purpose-built tools for decisions that generic software leaves unfinished.

Luminality develops controlled, human-reviewed software for recurring analytical work. Each tool preserves source data, documents its calculation rules, and keeps judgment visible rather than hiding it behind an unexplained score.

The Luminality SERP Forecast application evaluates local search opportunities by combining proprietary search-results analysis with Google Ads keyword forecast metrics for specific service-and-city combinations. It is an internal decision-support tool: it does not create campaigns, place advertisements, or change Google Ads billing settings.

The Luminality system

From contract to trusted metrics.

How data integrity is maintained from underwriting through client reporting on a real, end-to-end SaaS metrics implementation.

Controlled FP&A System

SaaS Metrics Reporting System

Contract-to-report integrity

  • Source controlled Executed contracts + QuickBooks Online financials
  • No guessing Missing inputs remain blank or “—”, never estimated
  • One metric engine Documented formulas, reused everywhere
  • Traceable outputs Sheet, reports, and client portal tie together
  1. 1

    Underwrite the executed contract

Review signatures, parties, term, pricing, service scope, cancellation rights, and billing. Classify as New, Renewal, Expansion, Contraction, Churn, or Reactivation.

Control Ambiguity stops the entry; unsupported values are never assumed.

  2. 2

    Record the controlled contract event

Enter the approved event using normalized customer IDs, dates, ACV/TCV, and contract-generation rules. Prior history remains intact.

Control Field checks validate dates, event sequence, and ACV movement.

  3. 3

    Load accounting-system financials

Pull actual revenue and expenses directly from the client’s accounting system, then map them into defined financial categories.

Control Source totals are reconciled; unavailable periods display “—” rather than estimates.

  4. 4

    Calculate through one standards-based engine

Apply documented metric definitions consistently. Subscription revenue drives SaaS metrics; total revenue drives P&L, gross margin, and EBITDA views.

Control The same engine feeds every output and is tested with tie-outs and backtests.

  5. 5

    Publish synchronized decision outputs

Update the Google Sheet, Monthly Metrics Summary, Operating Dashboard, and client portal from the same controlled data and calculations.

Control Metrics must agree across surfaces; discrepancies are investigated before release.

One source chain. One calculation standard. Multiple consistent views.

Contracts establish recurring-revenue truth; the accounting system establishes financial truth; the reporting engine connects them without inventing missing data.
